ask the thousands of women that question, who have posted thousands of reports, on thousands of scammers on this board. ;)
Never send money to somebody you only know from the internet, or phone calls!

Seriously?? I think at least 80% of our active membership here are women.

What you might not be aware of is that mostly all of the beautiful women that scam you men are really men pretending to be women. While a woman being scammed by a male is heartbreaking and painful, I think a man getting scammed by another man is decidedly creepier. For that reason, I think most men don't report or hang around here much when they do.

And then women seem to have a tendency to complain more.

I think anyone participating on Internet dating sites is a target regardless. Women tend to be more open when reporting scams whereas the guys maybe sometimes reluctant to say anything. Having said that, I think sites such as this are popular because of the anonimity of the posters when making a report. I heard a news article a long time ago that indicated more women than men get scammed. I think it probably evens out in the long run but cannot confirm this. Which ever way one looks, it's one of the cruelest things to play with the emotions of another. Personally speaking, I think this so called internet dating is a complete waste of time. But that's just my thoughts.

Hello folks,
to tell you the truth I did not know most scammers were male and about 80% of RomanceScam members are female. Tell you the truth I knew about RomanceScam as far back as late 2006 I think. Well my stats say I joined Fri Sep 25, 2009. So for about 2 to 2 1/2 years I was reading scam reports on RomanceScam before I officially joined and started posting scam reports. So why did I join? I care about people I got sick of all the lies from the scammers and that honest good people were getting scammed. I have never been scammed I just want to help out is all. Many people join RS for many different reasons I suppose. I know there are people out there reading the posts on RS who are yet to officially join.

So what about the male female thing? I see more female scammers than I have time to deal with. I assumed the percentages were 50-50. Thing is though there is many types of scammers. This is only the Romance type of scams we are talking about. I have seen scams related to online business internet marketing. I could name a few but we are only talking about romance related scams on this forum. In the online dating - friendship networks and the like - I really believe no one anything they say. My experience is that everyone I come in contact with on the dating related networks is scammer or will be proven to be scammer at future date. I just do not believe anyone on these networks. My profile does not draw attention from real people. I suspect the person is a scammer the second they message me. I think it is a male trait to make first move. Maybe I am being old fashioned. I suspect people who message me first to be males pretending to be females.

So Male or female? I think the majority of the scammers contact me are males pretending to be women. I consider daters who message me who use stolen pictures of models or adultstars to be male and either Nigerian or Ghanaian lying using picture of white girl. The Russian scammers using model pictures think most are men pretending to be women. The Senegal scammers well unsure if they are male or female, in many cases they are too males pretending to be female. The only scam messages I receive that come from people who portray themselves as male are for the most part lottery scams or related scams designed to steal people's personal information.

I think the vast majority of scammers who contact me are in reality males pretending to be women.

just my two cents worth

P.S. I would like to add that not all posers who use stolen pictures of models or adultstars are scammers. A few years back I had experience in chat networks like WBS . Many of the chat sites are role playing communities so some posers using these stolen pictures are only doing it for fun. Some are only liars not scammers.
