Your right

When Australians travel overseas many of us like to wear something that marks us as Australian, we are of course proud of our country but also we dont want to be targeted by people who may mistake us for being American.

Yes, there is some resentment in some countries who believe that they have been exploited in some way over the last 5,000 years.

Scammers will use anything to justify their scamming in their own minds but they will happily scam people of any religious, cultural or ethnic background believing god put them there to be scammed so they are fair game.

Let's not turn this into a debate on how others feel about Americans OK? It'll only end up ugly. Fact is the scammers will make up any excuse to try and justify their scamming. Americans enslaved us, Americans have more money than us, Americans have nicer teeth than us, Americans have more flavors of ice cream than us. And not just Americans. Anyone that isn't their next of kin is seen as a target.

The reason behind this is to my understanding that military personnel in many regions of the world are seen as especially trustworthy. Helping, building up countries, yet being in personal danger, "vulnerable" in possibly hostile surroundings... I can´t express it properly. May sound silly the way I put it but mutatis mutandis this is the same reason why scammers give themselves aliases as young motherless girls, elder widows with charity money, Reverends and doctors.
They can´t introduce themselves as "Hi, I am a 20 y o internet cafe coward hiding behind a number of fake identities on the net, yet you can trust me, just send me a little advance payment ok"
;)

And any reader here will no doubt realize soon that scam victims come from everywhere, even Nigeria. Scammers use the anonymizing potentials of internet relationships to steal from anybody. Many forum members here are from the Middle East or Eastern Europe or Latin America or India or the Far East and suffer from just the same scam abundance as anybody who has ever had an email address or a social site appearance :(

Btw, not that I wamt to stir the pot too much as we go into page 12 here...

If anyone has still any doubts that I am who I say I am then we're just wasting more time. I won't. Say what prompted this comment..I know to trust Wayne, Red Zora and Frumpy (even though I'm a bit scared of her :P )so far and if for some reason there is any doubt I can work with them to get that officially cleared up. I'm not talking beers here (with aforementioned) I'm just saying let me know because baiting is just silly nonsense...unless we're talking a rib eye medium rare..then maybe...

Sorry if this sounds crazy... but it's crazy we even need a forum like this and a topic change seemed appropriate :D

The topic change is a good idea although I think I would prefer the last topic

I have no reason to doubt you are who you say and I see no good reason why you would lie about it anyway, yes, scammers join here to profess their fake persona's innocence but at no time have you tried to tell us anything that would indicate you are telling lies.

As far as anybody here should be concerned, you are as much a victim as anybody else and deserve the same respect as any other (non scamming) member here.

If anybody is deliberately baiting another member or showing a lack of respect then it will not make for happy mods or admins.

If it is happening, it needs to stop NOW

@Jorge, "Miss" Frumpy may not be so scary when you stop refering to him as "her" ;)

Don´t worry. I know it appears silly but when we here deal with professional scammers on a regular basis we must give out as little personal information to the web as possible; therefore all the comic/animal/celebrities avatars. :D

I kind of have to agree with you now Wayne... Besides, Frumpy was much scarier two profile pictures ago. :P Bring it back...before what looked like Mia Farrow and the most recently downloaded sports car. ;)

Oh.. btw, I'm used to the regular visitors from Lagos and Abuja trolling my site for pics but as of late (for the first time) I'm seeing activity coming from Senegal. Maybe someone either picked up the phone and told a friend or relocated to happier hunting grounds? I hate having to speculate like this and wish I could offer something more concrete right now.

That was British blues singer Jo-Ann Kelly. Unfortunately, there aren´t too many female musicians who I idolize. For a long time I had youthful smoking Alberta Hunter.
Before I had an owl

Don´t know which kind of site you have/operate. To keep scammmers off it there are some tools or tricks, ask Wayne (or Marisa when she comes back).

Thanks for getting them removed - seems like they are gone now.

At this point, I'm all for Facebook requiring credit cards...

just wondering if stolen pics have a certain “shelf life” for scammers...I mean once they become well know on the net does scammers discard for new pics? After all style changes each year?

^^ Not as such no, many of the popular picture sets used in the past continue to be popular even though they are well documented as being used by scammers, Raven Riley for instance.

If a scammer was finding that he was having no luck in his scamming using certain pictures he is likely to try his luck with a new set of pictures though.

We have seen many cases of the same scammer changing pictures while keeping the same email address so we do know they change sometimes.
