is my dad falling for brazillian scam?

Postby annahowelll on Thu Oct 06, 2011 9:08 am

Hi

My name is Anna, and I have joined this site as i am desperately worried about my dad. Last month he left my mother after 34 years of marriage and announced that he had met a portugese woman in brazil on a social networking outlet.

He is now prepapring to fly to brazil on saturday, where this woman will meet him and they will spend a few days in hotel of area where his flight is to, before going back to her home place and staying there till end of month.

He has rushed divorce procvedures with my mum so that he can marry this woman when he goes out there again, this time for good, in january.

This woman knew he was married (and in my opinion must have known a quick divorce wouldnt have been obtained in time) and has offered to come to uk in jan instead.

I have seen this woman via webcam, and she has sent all the relevant paperwork regarding the visit (booking confs, visit permits etc) and as far as i am aware has not asked my father for any money.

She is a woman in her late 40's who has a 3 year old son, is very well off, with a good job and paid off house.

obviously i hope that this is not a scam, or at worst is just a money one as aposed to some of the horrible stories i have read about today in my research.

Does anyone have any advice for me please????

It does not seem to be a Nigerian or Russian scam. I doubt we can be of any help :(

I agree, the "female" scammers would normally tell you they are much younger than late 40s and the "girls" will not usually have children.

That doesn't mean it cant be a scammer but certainly the red flags are not sticking out like they normally do.

If you could post a header minus your Dad's details we should be able to tell you fairly quickly.

You could also read through our FAQ, it has a lot of good information about what to look out for and if not now it will help your dad in the future.

Please know that despite any signs, if he is asked for money for any reason he needs to consider that its a scam, if that happens, come back and give us more details and we should be able to tell you
