Scammed through Cupid.com - Pinay scam, sorry, OT. F.

Postby c4rtsy on Mon Oct 29, 2012 10:10 pm

Hello.
I joined this forum to tell my story and hopefully prevent others from falling into the same trap I did. Although looking back I feel incredibly stupid and naive for falling for this...
I recently joined Cupid.com with a 3 day trial. As soon as I joined I got winks, waves and chat invites. After chatting with one girl, she asked me to add her to facebook. I saw no harm and wanted to see her pictures anyways. Then she asked if I had skype. I added her to skype and we started a video chat. She was a beautiful asain woman, I believe of Philippine descent. This is where it gets embarrassing. She asked me to take my clothes off and masturbate for her. I was horny and decided why not, I had never done it before. We took turns undressing and I preformed for her a little. All of a sudden the video chat shut down and she began to play back a video of me. She recorded everything I had done for her. Then she said, I need your help. Send me $300 via Western Union or I will send this video to all your contacts. She listed all the names in my contacts. I panicked, and agreed to pay. I eventually talked her down to $75. As I was registering for Western Union online, a second contact added me to skype and started telling me that her computer was taken by her manager and that she had the video stored on a usb drive. She told me not to send the money to her manager, but her instead. So now I had two random contacts asking for money "or else". I was being blackmailed and humiliated. I ended up sending $75CND to "Gabby Santiago" from the Philippines. I ignored the second request from the second contact. After I sent the money I deleted and blocked both skype contacts and the facebook contact. This happened last night. I could barely sleep and I still worry that my video may be leaked online. Among my contacts are my extended family members :( Nothing to report so far but I still had to pay to make the problem go away and I still don't feel confident that it has. Obviously after reading this, you may think I was stupid to allow this to happen, and I agree. But it was a boring rainy Sunday and I took a chance. Hopefully, I can prevent someone from falling into this scam. I guess I was wrong to trust another human being I don't even know that I only met on the internet.

I should also tell you that she wasn't the only person on Cupid.com who tried to scam me. The same day, another woman asked me to join xxxblackbook.com and she would give me a private show, and a code to get a free membership. Luckily, my credit cards (which apparently was only for age verification) would not allow me to join, or I feel I would have been had a similar way. Good luck to all on dating websites and just make sure you know what you're getting in to.

Sorry to hear you´ve lost good money just because of this.
I´m afraid we only deal with Nigerian and Russian scammers...
Therefore, additionally, you might want to consider visiting www.dragonladies.org, and post the Philippine´s name, photo, Skype nick and whatever you have there and warn others.
Please try your best to block ALL your scammer´s still incoming messages and calls!

What is all this? => The FAQ

Why is alerting the man in the pictures DANGEROUS?

Re: Scammed through Cupid.com - Pinay scam, sorry, OT. F.

We have warned about these types of scams on several occasions. The Africans are doing this too, however they can't appear on cam and have a little more difficulty luring their victims into this when they don't reciprocate. This scam is becoming very commonplace. As Frumpy says, we don't post Pinays here because their pictures are most often sexually explicit and lewd and we try to keep this site Google/family friendly. There are plenty of other anti-scam sites though that you should post this on - including the scammer's details.

That said, there are still some things you should do or the blackmail will never end.

1.) Close your FB account entirely. Leave FB for several months or start anew with a fake name.
2.) Notify your family and friends that you had to close your FB account because you were hacked and you are pretty sure the hacker is going to be sending out a virus or password stealing trojan by way of a video or picture file. They must not open anything that comes from someone they don't know or anything that is associated with your name or FB account.

This is not a guarantee that someone might not open anyway. You might want to consider telling folks you did something incredibly stupid, too. Ask them not to open for the reasons above. You messed with the wrong people.
3.) Close your email account and make a new one. Only give the new address to people you want to stay in contact with.
4.) No matter what they say . . . DO NOT RESPOND TO ANY CONTACT FROM THE SCAMMER. Don't even open any emails. Blackmail takes two and if they can't communicate their threats, it's pointless for them to go on.
5.) Don't answer phone calls from numbers you don't recognize. Let them go to voice mail and do not respond in any way if they call you. Block the numbers they call from.

Do I need to add, DO NOT PAY THEM ANOTHER PENNY!!!?

It's highly likely the first person who scammed you, was using a recording of a cam performer, and not a live person.
Sorry, guys see private parts on cam, and rarely notice something isn't right with what they are seeing on cam.

You got off cheap, for $75. These blackmails are getting popular, and sometimes the guy ends up paying thousands.

People you meet online are essentially STRANGERS. You have no idea who they really are, which this scam proves.

If you have a facebook account with real info about you, don't give it out to STRANGERS. You should also not be chatting or emailing strangers with an email or chat account you use for personal business, family, and friends.

The second scammer you mentioned was a porn site 'chatter'. A person, often MALE, who gets paid to recruit 'customers' for porn sites, and they frequently lie or commit fraud in the process of getting you to sign up.

They will tell you anything to get you to sign up, and enter a credit card number. Oh yes, they even talk you through missing certain pages in the sign up process, so you end up getting billed $40 US a month, until you notice the charges, and fight to stop them. The 'free' or '$5' trial membership, or 'credit card is only needed to verify age' is BS. They are strategically walking you around 'opt out' pages in the sign up process. You'll never see these pages.

You need to check this credit card account, close it, or be prepared to watch it for fraud.

The second scammer may even be the same person as the first scammer. The porn site 'chatters' do other scams on the side.

Keep your clothes on, and hands on the keyboard, when online, please.
Never send money to somebody you only know from the internet, or phone calls!

The same thing happened with me, but the girl messaged me on tagged and was from australia. She got me on skype, we "had fun", then the screen turned to me and showed some facebook profiles of my freinds. She then sent me 11 photo's of me masturbating, then threatened me to go to that site and pay ONE THOUSAND dollars or she'll send the pics to 20 friends that she linked to on my fbook. I'm told her i can't pay that and I am underaged which i am, i then proceeded to quit my skype, then block her on tagged, then when i got back on skype an hour later, she didn't reply and i blocked her...hopefully it doesn't get sent to those profiles, i never added her on fbook...

It's a hard lesson to learn but better to suffer now than to pay and suffer endlessly. If you pay, the scammers keep bleeding you. They lie for a living as she was lying about who and where she was.

Close you FB account. Make a new one but don't use your real name and use a new email address that also does not use your real name. For instance, I use my favorite candy as my name and email address. Then contact all your old friends and tell them your old account was hacked and your computer infected with a virus. They should not accept messages or friend requests from you or about you. Hopefully that will discourage anyone from receiving anything the scammer tries to send.

And set your FB security tight so that no one can see your pages or posts, except friends you allow.

Good luck to you.

Some days ago happened to me the same situation. Exactly the same.
I have payed three times her by Western Union in order to avoid the video to be shown to my relatives, friends, work colleagues and on youtube, dailymotion and other programs. Then I threaten myself to go to police if she was continuing to blak mail me. And Ifinally I blocked her on Skype. Of course on Skype I still keep all the information about our dialogue, so that in chance she will continue to make me problems I can show to authorities what really happened.
Please I would like that you contact me via the PM system
Best regards.

Hi, I think it´s rather you who should fight back and not only go to police but expose the scammer yourself (and break up all contact and tell them nothing about it). Don´t think this gang is not doing it on countless others just the same, undisturbed yet. Scam details need to be posted in the female section on this board; but if it was a Philippine cam chatter, the details belong no more here but to dragonladies.org.

Close the accounts and make new ones, not using your real name or personal details. Tell your friends you were hacked and they should not accept contact from those old accounts or anything about you. Warn them that attachments about you are hacking attempts and viruses. They should not open anything from someone they don;t know.

Now, never communicate in any way with the scammer again. In order to blackmail they have to present their demands. There is no presentation of demands if they cannot find you. There are very few places on the net where pornographic images can be placed where just anyone can see them and what good would it do them if they can't get them to you?

If the scammer was Pinay, we no longer accept those scam reports, but if they were African (where did you send the money?) post their information here so we might warn others.

I hope you've learned something from this. It's an expensive and painful lesson. Be safe.
