It was my friend that was scammed and she major fell for the picture first and also put it on her cell as her wallpaper. He was very good looking, I must agree. Hindsight, their contact was on my computer and he would catch me daily also to chat and he did go after both of our weak points which we both do have or did. The first few days I found him very comforting to chat with until about the fifth evening when he was chatting with my friend, there was something we had spoken much about that morning and he knew nothing about it when chatting with her. At that point I knew we were talking to more than one person but he was able to keep her under his spell and I just played the game to find out what was going on. About the ninth day marriage, robbed, hurt, need money then I found RS and of course I found the answers. Then we played him for weeks, amusing I must say, we got our training in more than one avenue from him and I guess the rest of the story you know because we are here trying to exterminate all the cockroaches that we can.
I guess what I am trying to say is that we hit your pole starting from #1 to....
:interesting:  :whew:

I fortunately was not scammed. It was too obvious that the guy was not as he said, however; he was quite charming and romantic.
If you seek...you'll certainly find, however; is it what you sought?

I have not been scammed, but for me it was the pictures that were the dead giveaway that something was not right.

Several years ago I created a myspace profile to spy on my then teen aged daughter. I am single and available so I said so on my profile. However, if I recall correctly, I first posted a picture of my dog and wrote about him in my profile.

Suddenly male model types who were decades younger than me, were telling me how beautiful I was, how attracted they were to me and how they thought we should get together in chat. On a lark, I messaged one and understood right away the person behind the computer on the other end wasn't a native English speaker.

I didn't know a thing about baiting back then so I played along either telling them they were hot and I loved them or alternately telling them they were full of brown stinky stuff and making them mad.

Come to think of it . . . I'm still doing that today.

I was very fortunate that my first contact with love scammers were with really bad scammers. Otherwise I could have easily fallen. Today there are many who have perfected their craft and there are new, innocent people joining the internet dating world everyday.

Education is our only weapon.

For me it was the voice of the scamer and the story he tell me (lost wife on cancer I lost my husband on cancer and his daughter and my daughter study the same biomedicine) but more it was the voice, I speak german, but I learn britisch englisch in the school and I have a voice in my minde how he should speak, but he has an accent, and this was not british, and then I remember nigerian connection and I search the hole night in the web and found your side and that helps me to play with this guy.

Thank you for the side

That's one of the reasons I specialise in romance scams over any other type. These people aren't just stealing your money. They're also breaking your heart in the process, and I find that more callous.

I didn't know my first was a scammer until I came on here and looked through the pictures and found not just that one, but several more. Luckily when they asked for money, I dropped them like flies!
Catching scammers to protect the innocent!
I must be doing something right. Two scammers threatened killing me. Like they can find me. hahaha

I would like to agree with Wayne, that the emotional cost is way more detrimental in the long run than the financial (how ever devastating that is, and I would never try to trivialise it), because these maggots pray on the kind, the loving and the virtuous. These are all beautiful qualities that this world seems to trample on. I waver between wanting to trap these scum and never wanting to visit this site again because of how soul destroying it is. But, in the end, I believe there are good people out there, just like us, I guess, and I am out there doing my best to keep them busy under various guises. I currently have about 7 on the hook and would never have believed that I would be here if anyone had told me. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of you who have replied to me in support and who are working hard in their 'spare' time to save unsuspecting victims. You are truly amazing and inspirational people - you are the ones who keep me coming back and keep me at it. :applause:

in my case it was his ways.. yes of course, scammers were very good at this but who really knew at first? not until the drama about the death of a father or needing money to be sent in malaysia was when my instincts goes higher than me. i thought i was all alone on this when i discovered romancescam and they helped me get back to myself again. more power to all and keep up the good work! :applause:

Yes, I think the worst thing is you feel being played, betrayed and your dreams crashing into the floor. I guess deep down every one of us want so much to believe there is a prince charming for all of us.

Have a great day

My scammer lost his wife to cancer 3 years ago. Lived in Baltimore, moved to NY went on a business trip to Nigeria on June 3 to obtain a license to import and export oil. Has no children, was married for 13 years wife unable to have kids. He was going to Nigeria for 2 weeks. On his way to the airport was involved in car accident, the driver died and he broke his arm, yet he was still able to IM. asked for money for medical bills ($300) don't have it. Then two weeks after needed another $300 to pay for hotel and penalty for flight. Finally last week he was on his way back to NY but the poor man had to stay in Denmark because his mother died. This man makes you feel sorry for him because he litterly cries on the phone to you asking for help. Ladies don't be fooled by this man, his voice is angelic, he is a sweetheart and will romance you like you won't believe. Becareful

I agree totally with "Arabian Nights". I fortunately didn't lose money. But other people did because of this scammer - a nice florist who delivered two huge arrangements, a wine/candy gift box vendor and a second florist. All delivered the goods to me and did not receive the money due them because the charges were fraudulent. That information was confirmed today. While a broken heart doesn't feel good right now, what I am having a huge issue with is believing/trusting what anyone's profile says and if that is truly their picture. I don't know how I will believe any man anymore and on the downside, if I don't, I will be alone for the rest of my life. I feel frozen and unable to go on. Maybe since this scam all came to a head yesterday, I am still in shock. I'm lost, that's what it is. I trusted my heart which is where I believe God speaks to you and it all blew up in my face. However, I had to be honest with myself today. In hindsight, there were signs saying "run" and I ignored them or did not press him for the answer I needed to know. So it's my fault too. Ladies, please trust your instincts and don't get so head over heels with someone that you ignore them. My best wishes to all.
