I wondered about FB and how bad it was because so many people want to be on it. It's the thing to do these days with all your friends. Now I think its a real danger to the younger kids. An open door! :( Becaues the scammer has no respect of persons  He doesn't care the color, age, position etc.

One more thing I've noticed is... Since I've been on here looking at photos and baiting myself, I've seen lots of them on FB. I've looked at their profiles and the friends thay have added and its the same pattern as on dating sites.

It is amazing how many people think its safe to befriend complete strangers online and that article on the last page highlights another angle where people (especially young people) can find themselves in serious trouble through Facebook or other social networking sites.

Many features on FB actively encourage people to befirend as many people as posible which just makes the problem even worse.

There is a lesson to be learnt here and sadly it is a lesson most generations learnt when we were growing up but seem to forget when the computer is turned on, "strangers can be dangerous"

@The Wild Geese
Sweep them out and send them back where they come from!
I think the Malaysian government need a complete rethink of their immigration policy, if a person on a student visa is found guilty of a crime they need to immediately have that visa revoked and be sent packing and any belongings or money found to be the proceeds of crime or given by the government should be taken from them on their way out

The next step is actively catching them which is possible with the right investigation, plain clothes police and monitoring of known internet cafes, rewards for information leading to the arrest of scammers as well as online infiltration.

MY biggest concern for Malaysia is that if they dont act fast the disease will spread, young Malaysian men will see it as easy money and the international reputation of Malaysia as a whole will be ruined

Dear all
The posts here have been a while, but Facebook is still being infiltrated by scammers. I have since signed off from that site for good. I was approached by only a couple of handsome men there who called me queen of their hearts/angel/woman of their dreams (be still my heart!) in their first mail but I was already not comfortable with all the information I had in facebook. Facebook users should be very very careful when adding new friends recommended by friends of friends.

I was contact by facebook by my first and last scammer.

I did not realize he is a scammer till I sent to him US$1,600 and got back and email from a hospital saying he had suffer a car accident, after all the process that awful thing takes of my life, suddenly in my account I did get 2 private messages from 2 handsome men asking me to be friends, of course I blocked them, report them as soon as possible.

I do not want to close my fb account, but I will use my learnings from this site to avoid this kind of people.

The scum bag :liar: who scammed me found me on facebook ... and to think that it was my first time to entertain a stranger on FB, as I usually ignore people that I don't know (most likely all the others that I ignored are scammers too!). I was so ignorant then and didn't know that romance scam existed until it happened to me. I have learned my lesson the hard and expensive way :( . I found this site a bit late ... but not too late to late to learn new lessons that will help me from being scammed again. I have read cases where some victims were scammed not only once but twice, and even more. The worst that I have seen is a victim who lost 120,000 USD to different scammers. I lost 6500 USD to this bastard . It would have been more had I not listened to my gut feel, as I was determined to pay more to claim my stuck shipment at Malaysia customs. My gut feel was already screaming at me on the third money request of 20,000 USD. So I decided to google Royal Malaysia customs and found their hotline. I called the hotline and they told me that it was a scam. I googled scam and that's when I found this romance scam site.

Thanks to RS site as I know now how to easily spot a scammer. I switched back my message setting to everyone and guess what? I found 3 new messages in my inbox who are obviously scammers, grrrr

Facebook....

Postby lcsodispatcher » Mon Oct 03, 2011 1:39 am

I tried to post this in another area, but it was not showing anything to add to the thread for social networking sites. I just today have received 3 scammers. In my FB in box. Of course I knew right away how to spot them. I also had one on Match.com. All of his photos were too good to be true...and...his profile showed PHD?? lol..yeah ok...I know that i'm gonna have someone awesome in my life, but really!! lol..

Anyway my question was, should we contact FB and tell them they are potential scammers? I have not and will not respond to them but I just didn't know if we could do that and have they're page looked into. You have to be friends with them to see exactly whats on there page. I don't want that, because i don't want my other friends to be taken advantage of.

Thanks!!

When you find scammers at free membership sites please just post them here and leave their profiles up at the sites. If you have their profiles removed they will be back in 5 minutes with a brand new identity -- one that we (and google) know nothing about. This is why we also stress not to confront them too.

At paid sites, however, scammers' memberships are purchased with stolen credit cards. These should be reported.

@lcsodispatcher - there's a rule here that you must make a certain number of posts in the main forum before you can do certain things.
Help us keep scammers stupid Post his details here to warn others, then walk away without explanation. Confrontation alerts scammers & makes them change their identities...which makes all your hard work outdated. It messes with their minds if they don't know why you walked away.

I (mostly) agree with you duckhunter - on most free dating websites, websites that really don't give a rat's [butt] about scammers, it's better to just report the member on a website such as this. However, for free dating websites that DO care about squashing scammers, we have tools to help prevent reoccurrences, especially from the same scammer -- thus it is helpful to report the scammer, rather than to let the scammer go unnoticed. I know datingnmore as well as truluv operate in this sense. Are there other free websites that you know of who are genuinely interested in ridding themselves of scammers?

Sorry djluker, my advice stands.

I also don't think you should be advertising your dating site here.

Re: Ugly side of facebook

Postby Stealth » Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:49 pm

Personally, I despise FB. I find it a very invasive program. When I first signed up, I soon learned that FB took it upon itself to alert EVERYONE on my contact lists whether it be yahoo or AIM. Since I did not want everyone on my contacts to know about my FB for reasons that are my business, I was LIVID to say the least. Then to make matters worse, it must have set some tracking cookies into my computer, because suddenly it's announcing that I LIKE all these things that I happened to be cruising the web for. Good thing I wasn't cruising porn sites eh? lol That being the finally straw I locked down my FB (even more angry that you can't just delete yourself completely from there) removed everything and closed it down.

So in the end, I would dare say FB has a very ugly side for many reasons, including giving mugus a new avenue to scam.
"Scam signs"

ATTN GUESTS!!Telling your mugu that he/she is busted will accomplish absolutely nothing but teaching them how to be better at scamming/victimizing, as well as cause other victims unnecessary duress. Unless this is what you hope to cause, do NOT confront them!
