Is it OK to look for and warn real innocent person in pic?

Postby FrumpyBB » Sat Apr 14, 2012 12:34 pm

DON'T TELL SCAMMERS THEY ARE LISTED!!
PEOPLE ON THE PICTURES ARE INNOCENT!!
WHITE FACE + NIGERIA = SCAM!!
DON'T SEARCH FOR REAL PEOPLE ON THE PICTURES!!
STOP ALL COMMUNICATION WITH YOUR SCAMMER!

As for why you shouldn't warn the real people on the pictures, a summary:

- in most cases, unless it is a known public figure, you cannot tell for sure if it is a real person or just a perfectly crafted profile of another imposter

- if it is indeed a real person, there is nothing he can do anyway. You will just upset him. NOBODY in the world can prevent a scammer from using any picture he wants.

- if a real person gets upset, he will either bite your head off, or our head. He will come here, all upset, and since he cannot do anything to a scammer, he will start harass us and threaten with lawsuits. They don't understand it's a scammer who abuses their pictures by using it. They think it's our posters who abuse their pictures by posting it here.

- victims BOTHER them. Just look at this topic: http://www.romancescam.com/forum/viewto ... 1&start=15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

tw8442 is a real man on the pictures, and look what stupid people are doing: bothering his parents, calling him at work. He is more upset about that, than the scammers using his pics.
We have many topics like that, spread throughout the board, from unhappy pic owners. They are more upset with victims than with scammers.

"What the real owners of the pictures say" : http://www.romancescam.com/forum/viewto ... 13&t=48177" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Bottom line - don't do it please, this will not do any good, scammers will not stop using his pictures, and he will just get upset. Just imagine if a scammer stole your pictures and they got posted here. what would you do?? What could you possibly do other than fighting together with us keeping them here with additional info thus making their use worthless for scammers? :)

I just want to add:

just like you, I ALWAYS try to locate the real owners of the pics. And everybody here does.

First of all, it's FAIR.
Secondly, sometimes it's the only way to convince victims in denial.

If me, or any of our staff members/regular posters locate the real owner, we ALWAYS indicate who he/she is, put it in topic title and provide a link of proof (unless it's a porn site - we don't link to porn sites, for obvious reasons).

However, unlike YOU, I don't do it to BOTHER the real owners. I do it for VICTIMS, to convince them they are being scammed. I don't do it just to contact a real owner and say: "Hey, surprise, surprise!!! Your pictures are used in scams!!"

.... and make a real pics owner upset. There is nothing they can do about it, anyway!!! Please understand it!!
